Review:
Shanghai style (Shanghai cai) tends to be sort of sweet and features lots of seafood. Shanghai restaurants have been quite popular for some years now. But Shanghai Cuisine is a little expensive.
Jade Garden (Chaowai Branch)
Jade Gardens has a strong reputation. They had a couple of interesting dishes, of which, the river prawns were most memorable. You must eat it like the pros, shell, head and all! The service is something to be desired. They do not appeared to be trained and were more interested in talking to each other. Also beware when paying the bill.
This branch of one of the more highly regarded and popular Shanghai chain restaurants offers diners its signature local dishes as well as Hong Kong-style dim sum in a classy and refined setting. Unadorned glass panels, marble floors, cream-colored chairs, and muted lighting all take a back seat to the food here. Not everything on the menu excites, so pick well: tea-smoked duck, wine-preserved green crab, and mizhi huofang (pork and taro in candied sauce) are all house specialties that live up to their renown; the noodles with scallions and small shrimp are some of the most delicious in town; and qicai dongsun (fresh winter shoots with local greens) is something you're unlikely to get back home. Service is highly efficient.
